Rory sweet revenge over Patrick

(l-r) Patrick Ooi, SSBA President Melvin Chia and Rory Thor
It was a sweet revenge for Rory Thor as he beats Patrick Ooi to win Leg 6 at A One Snooker & Pool Club, Kepong.

Compared to the day before where 4 centuries were made in the Quarter Finals, the Semi Finals were a more tighter affair with a lot of safety exchanges. Both matches with very close frame scores produced not so close finals scores as Rory and Patrick won Lai Chee Wei and Lee Hwa Meng with score lines of 4-2 and 4-1 respectively.

Rory broke off in the Final and immediately went ahead to a 2-0 lead but received a immense reply as Patrick fought back, winning 3 frames in a row to lead back 3-2. Frame 6 saw a bit of struggle in the beginning and it was Rory who prevailed and reeled in the next 3 frames to win the match 5-3.

Patrick's long awaited victory

(l-r) Patrick Ooi, Sam Chong and Rory Thor
It took him nearly two years before finally breaking the dry spell as Patrick Ooi wins Leg 5 of XZ Snooker Tour 2012 at One Class Snooker. He beats the Club's resident pro Rory Thor by 5-3.

Playing with a new cue in this Championship, his match play form was very much consistent through out without dropping much frames. His Semi Final's match was won without much hassle as Thean Mun Kit failed to give him a run for a place in the Final, being whitewashed 0-4.

Rory Thor in the other Semi Final match played against the defending champion Lai Chee Wei, whom won it 2 years in a row. The match was tied at 2-2 before Rory pulled front to take the next 2 frames and match.

The Final was in favour of Rory as head to head statistics showed that Patrick lost more times than he could remember playing him. But as the match cued off, Patrick straight took the first 3 frames to lead 3-0, leaving a blur Rory sitting in his chair, clueless and helpless. After a brief break, Rory made a 57 to win Frame 4 and the next 2 frames to level the match at 3-3. Patrick immediately pulled out his last move from his bag of tricks and took the next 2 frames to win the match.

Hong Kong's Au Chi Wai only merely managed to escape from defeat as he won Thean Mun Kit 4-3 in the Last 32 Round of Mike Yow Memorial Cup 2012.

Having played well in the Group Stage, Au immediately saw himself trailing a very much in form Thean 0-3. After a short toilet break, Au shook off all jitters and with breaks of 68 and 67 took the remaining frames and won the match to advance to the Last 16 round.

He plays Chooi Yew Wah in the Last 16 round, whom beat Don Kamaruddin 4-0 in his Last 32 match and also the current highest break holder of 130 points.

Chan Ka Kin also made it through to the Last 16 after defeating India's Shahbaaz Khan 4-3 whilst both Chau Hon Man and Bobby Lee bowed out, losing to Imtiaz Serwer and Patrick Ooi respectively, leaving Au and Chan to fly Hong Kong's flag.
