Imtiaz plays flawless snooker in today's match |
From the country with the tallest building in the world, Mohd Shehab, currently ranked No 1 in UAE and also the current highest break holder for this Championship, seem distracted with his cue tip from the beginning and was not his usual self today. His form dipped and Imtiaz capitalized on every chance given, gaining a 4-0 lead before the 15 minutes interval.
After the interval, Shehab played slightly better and won Frame 5 to narrow the gap to 1-4. But that was all he could salvage, as Imtiaz pounced and took the next 2 frames to win the match, going into the Final and a chance to take home the RM 10,000 Champion's cash prize.
Mohd Reza plays a shot with the rest |
Mohd Reza, after his recent round trip to snooker holy ground The Crucible, was very much in form coming into his Semi Final match. His opponent Ng Ann Seng, whom have been missing from this level of competition for quite some time, was also playing well with a glimpse of his used-to-be playing form.
Scores were close as Ann Seng led only 1 frame by 3-2 going into the 15 minutes interval. Reza took Frame 6 to level at 3-3 but Ann Seng had other plans in mind, as he took the next 2 frames to lead 5-3, requiring only 1 more frame for a spot in the Final.
Reza went for a quick break, came out, picked up his cue and leveled the match at 5-5 which included a 97 break in Frame 9.
Final frame cued off with a round of encouragement applause, as both players determined not to let the other score first. Nervousness and match pressure kicked in as both also made careless mistakes to let the other back on the table.
As it dwindled down to the colours, Ann Seng scratched his head as he already required 2 snookers and was struggling to get one. This lasted for another 15 minutes until Ann Seng left a sitter for Reza to take and clear, winning frame and match, going into the Final to play against Imtiaz.
Final will be played tomorrow, starting at 3pm, playing over Best of 13 frames.
