(l-r) Sebastian H'ng, Alex and Sam Chong |
Coming straight from his 2nd consecutive Final, Sam was aiming at winning his first National Ranking title and was labeled the favourite after his consistent match playing form in the earlier rounds. Sebastian, on the other side of the ring, was aiming to start the New Year by adding more one more title to his belt.
As the Final commenced, both players were on form and the match was soon leveled at 1-1. Sebastian immediately stepped up one gear and won 2 frames in a row to lead 3-1, needing only one more frame for his first title in 2011. Sam responded promptly and made a 69 break in the next frame to close the gap down to 3-2. Frame 6 was a bit slow as Sam was denying Sebastian any chances he could possibly get and sealing all exits, only to find himself falling on his own safety blunder giving Sebastian a chance to take the lead. On reaching the colour balls, Sebastian was up by 7 points and was given first chance on the Yellow. He missed it by a fraction and several safety play exchanged hands. Then Sebastian potted a long Yellow and cleared to Blue, leaving Sam requiring 2 snookers with Pink and Black left on the table. Sam tried to snooker him behind the Black but failed, giving Sebastian a long pot opportunity which went in cleanly to win frame and match.
Sebastian takes home cash prize RM 2,500, the Champion's trophy and also the Highest Break cash prize of RM 500 with his 100 points effort during the Championship. Sam can only take again the Runner up's cash prize of RM 1,000 and trophy.
