Maiden victory for Lee

It was Lee Chun Wei's first trip to Malaysia for a snooker tournament and it turned out very much in his favour as he defeats fellow countrymen Au Chi Wai to win this year's Mike Yow Memorial Cup.

Having played in the professional circuit previously, the formerly ranked 83rd in the world showed the crowd why he was ranked No 1 in Hong Kong with consistent potting and great safety play, keeping Au mostly in his chair throughout the whole match.

Although national player Rory Thor nearly got the better of Lee in the Semi Finals with all 9 frames played to decide the winner, the Final showed a different flow as Lee was in control most of the time.

Lee Chun Wei takes home RM 8,000 cash prize and the Champion's effort for his maiden victory here in Malaysia whilst Au manages only RM 3,500 cash prize and the Runner up's trophy. Highest break for the Championship went to semi finalist Yuttapop Pakpoj from Thailand, with his 129 break during the Stage 2 Group Stage match against Michael Tan.

The Championship also donated total of RM 20,000 cash to two charity organizations, which are Rumah Kanak Kanak Angels, KL and Seng Wong Kong Old Folks & Rehab Centre as part of the objective for this event.
