Playing against Rory Thor in the evening Semi Final match and 4th encounter of the year, Lai Chee Wei seemed to be playing well leading 2-0 into the match. Rory later notched one gear up and won 3 frames in a row to lead 3-2, needing one more frame to progress and try repeating a back to back victory. Lai Chee Wei however denied him of that chance and won the last 2 frames to meet Mohd Reza in the Final, who beat Moh Keen Hoo in the other Semi Final with a score of 4-1.
Breaking off in the first frame, Mohd Reza capitalized on the first given opportunity and won Frame 1 with a break of 52. Lai Chee Wei returned the favour and made a 76 break to level the match at 1-1. Both showed signs of nervous and anxious as they matched each other for accuracy and safety exchanges. Frame 3 saw Lai Chee Wei requiring snookers with Pink and Black left and he got it on the first try. Mohd Reza missed and Lai cleared to win Frame 3, leading 2-1. Playing with full confidence after a straight 2 frames win, Lai steam rolled ahead and left Mohd Reza in the smokes far behind as he won the next 2 frames to clinch victory in the match and Championship. Lai Chee Wei happily smiles and walks away with RM 2,500 cash prize and the Champions trophy, adding one more to the mantelpiece.
