Ibrahim Amir successfully defends his title by winning again at the 3rd National Pool Championship 2010 at A-Que Snooker & Pool Club. He beats seasoned campaigner Kovic Chong with a scoreline of 13-8.
After a slow and struggling start into his semi final match, Amir aka Rico was unable to perform to par as his SEA Games team mate Benjamin Lee played well with the scores very close. After reaching 8-8, Amir recovered and went to win 3 racks in a row to advance into the Final.
Kovic Chong was also up against a tough opponent as he played last year’s Runner-up and seeded No 2 Tony Chong. Racks were won and cleared by each player without much space to breathe until it reached 9-9. In rack 19, after a few safety exchange, Tony cleared all but missed the 9 ball to give Kovic the first step on the hill. Kovic later on then cleared rack 20 to progress into the Final.
The Final affair was a repeat of the 2006 XZ Pool Tour Grand Final with Amir emerging as the eventual winner and this time around Kovic was determined to not repeat the same feat and snatch back victory. Amir grabbed an early 3-0 lead into the Final but was quickly leveled by Kovic at 3-3. A few racks were exchanged which stopped at 7-7 and Amir went to extend his lead to 11-7, leaving 2 racks away from retaining the title. Kovic cleared and won a rack but that was all as Amir went on to win the remaining racks to lift the trophy and earning the title of 2010 National Pool Champion.
