Double Joy for Moh Keen Hoo winning 24th National Snooker Championship 2010

Today he is the National Snooker Champion, tomorrow he takes on another role and becomes the Man of the day. Moh Keen Hoo couldn't ask for more joy and delight after winning the 24th National Snooker Championship 2010, adding a bonus cash prize of RM5000 and extends his celebration to tomorrow with his wedding ceremony taking place.

The match started slightly later due to the delay completion of the Semi Finals but expectations were high as the Championship witnessed 2 newcomers playing in the Final. Moh Keen Hoo, though had much success overseas including winner of the Asian Junior Championship, still could not add this title to his belt after years of trial. Lai Chee Wei, silver medalist in the 25th SEA Games Mens Snooker Double, was also playing his first final of the National Championship, hoping to be victorious this time around.

Once started, Lai wasted no time and sped off to an early 2 frames lead. Still trying to catch his rhythm, Moh played the 3rd frame strategically, hoping to disrupt Lai's playing form and won the frame at the colours. After that Moh seemed unstoppable as he wins another 4 frames in a row, leading 5-3 and only 1 frame from victory. Lai wasn't about to give up easily and made a 65 break in frame 8 to reduce the lead to 5-3. But that was the last frame Lai would win in this Championship as Moh totally dominated frame 9 and won the frame and match to claim the National Snooker Champion title. He walks away with RM5000 cash prize, the Challenge trophy and the title, with a smile as wide as he could stretch.

Below is the match breakdown of the Final :-

Final
Moh Keen Hoo 6-3 Lai Chee Wei
8-68(52), 44-68, 70-59, 69-53, 63-57, 60-16, 68-41, 5-105(65), 66-24

Day 8 - Semi Finals Results

Both being a nail biting, neck to neck matches, Moh Keen Hoo finally had his revenge as he won Mohd Reza on the final frame to advance to the Final. The Blue Ball that gave Mohd Reza his semi final victory last year had also played an important role this year as it caused him his loss in frame 8 when he was leading 4-3. Having potted the Blue Ball, it went on to hit the Green Ball and went in off. It was downhill from then as Moh Keen Hoo went on to win the remaining 2 frames and match to go into his first National Championship Final.

On the other semi final, Rory Thor Chuan Leong seemed to have lost his Midas touch which saw him won last year's Championship. Although leading 3-2 halfway with his 2nd century break of 107 points, he still uncomfortable with his playing form and was unable to get past his SEA Games Doubles partner, Lai Chee Wei. And it was proven as after frame 5, Lai went all out to capture and win 3 frames in a row to seal off the match with a 5-3 scoreline.

Semi Finals Results
Rory Thor Chuan Leong 3-5 Lai Chee Wei
109-1, 51-82, 59-66, 76-31, 112(107)-21, 9-68, 36-75, 36-66

Moh Keen Hoo 5-4 Mohd Reza
72-42, 8-123(59), 53-43, 26-48, 63-48, 2-83(64), 53-58, 70-53, 83-32

Day 7 Results

Rory Thor Chuan Leong was only one black away from being the first Malaysian to compile a maximum 147 break in the local tournament scene. Already potted 14 reds and 13 blacks, Rory ended slightly off position on the 14th black and found it difficult to pot and place for the last red. Taking a deep breath, he went down, feathered a few times and punched the black hard, but only to find it rattling in the jaws of the pocket and went up the table. What was thought as a miss suddenly became a chance as the black slowly rolled back to the same pocket slowly and still only managed to find the jaws again. Heaving a sigh of disappointment, Rory has only managed the sole century break of the Championship with 105 points, winning his Last 16 match against Azhar Red 4-0.

During the Quarter Finals, the Top 4 seeded managed to advance to the Semi Finals without much hassle except for Seeded No 4, Lai Chee Wei who found himself against a tough opponent, Goh Boon Sun. Goh, hailing from Penang, was playing well and was level at 1-1 with Lai into the match. Lai regained playing form and reeled 2 frames in a row to lead 3-1, 1 frame from going into the Semi Final. Goh did not give in easily and captured the 5th frame to narrow the gap to 3-2. But that was the last frame he could only win in the Championship as Lai wrapped up frame 6 and match to win 4-2 to setup tomorrow's semi final match against Seeded No 1 and defending champion Rory Thor Chuan Leong.

Tomorrow's Semi Final matches have been rescheduled to start at 3pm, playing over Best if 9 frames where Rory Thor Chuan Leong will play Lai Chee Wei and Moh Keen Hoo will be playing against Mohd Reza.

The Final will be at 7pm, playing over Best of 11 frames.
